Preparing for change: Definia’s approach to finance and ERP transformation in 2025

2024 has been an incredibly busy year across Definia, so as we end Q3 and look ahead to Q4 and beyond into 2025, we thought we’d take stock and reflect on a key agenda item for many of our customers today – drivers for digital transformation and, more specifically, finance and ERP transformation.

According to a recent study by Deloitte, UK organisations are now dedicating around 25% of their IT budgets to digital transformation initiatives, with an emphasis on automation, process optimisation, and enhanced digital service delivery. And this is only set to increase. Gartner last week reported that worldwide IT spending is expected to total $5.74 trillion in 2025, a 9.3% increase from 2024, according to their latest forecast.

At Definia, we’re helping a variety of organisations deliver on their strategies by leveraging AI (data first, please!), cloud & SaaS, IoT, and data analytics to drive digital strategy, not only within large enterprises but also for SMEs, which form the backbone of the UK economy.

What’s fascinating for us is the nuances we see across these different organisations – from a maturity, people, process, and/or technical debt perspective. We’ve seen visible trends across industries – for example, the manufacturing sector is seeking to optimise through supply-chain analytics to achieve operational efficiency, while professional services and financial institutions focus on robust digital platforms to deliver seamless customer experiences.

Another area of focus is finance, specifically ERP transformation. We’ve previously discussed how systems have become integral to digital transformation efforts, helping businesses unify and streamline core finance processes and other key areas to achieve overall business transformation. Our advice has always been consistent, though – focus on the basics first: process efficiency, regulation and compliance demands, data-driven reporting, and business intelligence. This approach helps client’s future-proof while building roadmaps for predictive analytics, enhanced CRM, and AI initiatives.

We see this as a key theme heading into 2025. With a number of core ERP packages beginning to sunset their on-premises offerings and pushing customers toward cloud SaaS products, this trend isn’t going away.

Looking ahead to 2025, we are gearing up for multiple programmes to support digital and business transformation with an emphasis on:

  • Building agile, responsive, and people-centric transformation teams
  • Developing adaptive, secure, and sustainable digital infrastructures
  • Introducing data governance and data strategies to advance AI, automation, and data-centric innovation
  • Leveraging ecosystems and collaborative opportunities to accelerate innovation, mitigate risk, and ultimately ensure transformation investments translate into long-term growth and resilience

How will we do this? By following Definia’s simple philosophy, keep moving forward, and supporting our customers, clients, and partners in executing the basics of successful business transformation beautifully.
